This image shows the ignition of premixed hydrogen and air about a hot rod. Interesting phenomena are present, such as intense, swirling eddies near the ignition, and boundary interactions due to the non-laminar Reynolds numbers which range from 100-500.

First prize. The chaos of the turbulent flames draws your attention around the piece so that many new shapes can be discovered in the image. The contrast between the blue and red creates a balance through the chaos that makes it aesthetically pleasing.
