Get Wet Sp18 – Geya Kairamkonda

Convection of steam can be seen against a black background, with the base of the kettle lit with a blue LED strip to more clearly show air flow.

I’m intrigued by the way the light interacts with the condensation. The colors are also really nice.

I enjoy the angle and aesthetic of the picture, flow could possibly emphasized more.

Art: The bright and dim shades of blue really stand out.
Flow: The steam is faint, but still enough to tell what is happening. I am curious if light directly onto the steam would make it stand out more, or if it would still focus on the kettle.
Technique: I really enjoy the shades of blue, so whatever was done to get this effect was nice.

    – The art here is interesting as the highlight is around the rim of the glass, there’s a lot going on that’s hard to identify
    – It’s hard for me to find the flow in the picture although the color scheme really grabs my eye.
    – The photographic technique is a paradigm of sorts, appears that a tripod was used to find an ISO view

Art: Visually striking, strong color blocking. Maybe experiment with less contrast and different angles to capture the steam in different ways.
Flow: I can’t see it incredibly well, but I think with some slight tweaks it could be incredible.
Technique: Interesting capture, but maybe try some other lighting configurations to experiment?

Art : I liked the blue LED on the object
Flow : The behavior of steam is visible
Tech : Nice color contrast of image

Awesome concept with really neat lighting. The fluid is a bit overshadowed by the bright kettle. If you could highlight the steam more it would make the aesthetic perfect.

I like the consistency of the color and color levels. The understandable and reproducible flow and the focus. However, have you thought about increasing the steam?

This image is very crisp and the contrast is very nice. The use of shadows, and the asymmetry is a nice effect. It is a bit difficult to see the steam, so maybe a different angle could put the fluid flow in a more attention capturing part of the image. I really like the geometry and the blue/black colors.

I enjoy the electric blue aesthetic (Hi-Tec) – I couldn’t really tell where the fluid is; my eyes are drawn to the bright coffee mug. – condensation?

Great job on the lighting and very good focus of the condensation on the kettle. There might be a way to capture more of the steam in a future experiment.

The focus of the picture was good. I also liked the blue and dark colors that made the picture aesthetically pleasing. Maybe more clear picture of what is going on would be better.

  • I like how distinct the colors are in the photo. The flow is subtle but noticeable, the steam looks very organic in contrast to the sort of surreal look of the neon blue pot. I think how close you shot the photograph also makes it look more interesting

  • Color choice is pleasing to look at. The steam is a little difficult to pick out in the image but overall great quality. The contrast range is good.

If you were to highlight the flow phenomena a little more that would be helpful! But the blue stands out a lot amongst the black! Super cool

Really nice image, I like the contrast between the blue color on the left and shadow on the right. Also I like the reflection on the kettle. The stream isn’t super clear but it is hard to capture the stream flow.

Excellent focus and color composition, could improve framing. The physics are interesting but difficult to back out because the eye is drawn away from the steam.

I like the aesthetic of the image! The flow could be better controlled or framed. I like how you were able to capture the shadow of the steam. Photographic technique could improve with framing/angles.

The electric blue in the image is very aesthetically pleasing. Also, the condensation in the image has great contrast. Did you consider removing the lid from the pot completely to see more of the steam?

The steam in this composition is subtle, yet present. The depth of field in the image is effective. The steam seems to smear the blue color outside of the kettle, providing a contrast against the sharp edges of the kettle which is rather pleasing. The composition clearly illustrates the concept of condensation while highlighting the concept of evaporation as well.

Very cool choice of colors to illuminate the glass acting as an interestingly shaped “lens”. I think it may help to crop the image or change the photo to center around the flow, since it is more centered to the lid at the moment. This would help expose the flow a little better.

I like the positioning of the kettle in the image, it really draws the eye. I really like the contrast and use of blue LEDs. This is a really cool image.
It is a little hard to tell what the focus should be on. The kettle is so lit up that it is almost a little distracting. In the future, maybe focus on the inside of the kettle instead of the steam.

The electric blue aesthetic with the dark background is very visually appealing. The shadows in this picture really make the blue pop in this picture. The flow of steam in the picture is not the main focus in this photo. Did you mean to have the electric blue or the steam to be the main focus in your picture?

The contrast between the blue and black looks good. The focus and shutter speed are also well balanced. The flow itself is a little hard to make out, and the kettle takes a lot of the attention in the image.

Very nice background! I liked the idea of using LED lights!
    Nice angle!
The flow is not really obvious, try to boil more water or try using a different kettle.
Focus is mostly on the kettle, not the fluid.

Art: I like the blue glow around the entire picture.
Flow vis: I like the contrast and what appears to be condensation on the pot, as it contrasts well with the steam.
Picture: I feeel cropping off the empty black part of the image would be extremely useful in the photo pictured and bring the image closer to being the center of attention. Currently, the lid is centered which I feel detracts from the image.

I like the electric blue color that this picture uses. The fluid flow at first is somewhat hard to see at first but it does do a good job of showing the convection of the water vapor from a boiling kettle. I think that the contrast is cool given then low light and the contrast between the blue lighting.

The framing and colors in this picture are really nice. I think the flow phenomenon could be highlighted better maybe by focusing on that a bit more…possibly by adding light onto the steam? The texture on the coffee cup is really nice as well.

The photo has great color contrast and it looks very dramatic. The steam from convection is there, but it is very hard to see. Was this focus intentional or did you want to highlight the pot as well? The photo does have a good sense of depth.

Adding the LEDs to the image makes whats going on much easier to see, which is good. It is a little hard to see the actual steam coming out of the kettle though. Could you zoom in or focus on the steam more than the kettle?

I’m struggling to see where the flow is – this could just as easily be an empty coffee pot with a lot of light reflecting off of it. Also, cropping the right side, and maybe even a bit off the top.

    Art:
The LED thing was a cool idea. I like the misty mist at the top :)
    Flow:
Does the image focus on the fluid flow? It looks like it’s laminar—I wonder what it would look like if it were turbulent.
    Photographic Technique:
Our eyes are drawn towards the kettle. Is that the desired affect?

Flow: the flow is evident, but is not entirely clear in the image. It can be seen above the kettle, but to the untrained eye, it can be hard to see
Technique: focus or shadows could be balanced better, or adjusting cropping.
