A video visualizing the vortex shedding behavior that occurs when a blunt body is placed in a flowing fluid. An obstacle in the shape of a sine wave was placed in a flume and water flowed past it. Dye was injected through a hole in the body to visualize the Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability.

The flow is beautiful and captivating
Lucas,
I am actually still thinking about how you made that video because it was put together so professionally in my opinion. I wasn’t a huge fan of the musical choice, but it is very soothing to a person trying to relax. How did you get the entire set up to be so perfect?
I love your compositions and the way you play with light at the end. you’ve created a very dramatic and beautiful representation of the flow! your colors and music also play against each other super well.
Excellent job with the experimental setup. I wonder how a flow like this might change for a more viscous fluid.
Aptly named. I was immediately hooked by your choice of soundtrack and it worked so well in capturing the flowing vortices of the injected dye. Excellent framing, focus, and depth of field in your cinematography. The video was calming, artistic, and did a great job at capturing the physics of vortex shredding behavior. Excellent work.
Great choice of music, also nice and clear eddies. The progression through the music worked really well, and I really love the ending with the dimming effect. This worked out well visually.
The composition of the video is wonderful. The editing enhances the video, and the ethereal music is a great addition.
I am so relaxed for having watched this video. Excellent compositional setup, great incorporation of color. Beautiful music – really enhancing. Loved the end – perfectly timed. The swirls are so awesome! Phenomenal work.
Cool video. Didn’t see too much of a theme to it overall though. I did really like the part of switching back and forth from dark and light. In dark it looked like a city sky line and the switching felt like going through night and day with clouds passing by.
Great music, you did a really good job of matching the music to the flow. What are the specks that are flowing through the water? The only thing I would suggest working on are the transitions in the video, they seemed a little abrupt. Overall great video.
Really nice choice of background music. While I watch your video, I feel that my mentality is healed.
I like the progressive music with the video. I also liked how the dye would get stuck between the sin waves kind of reminding me of air getting trapped in a valley
Great video editing and music choice. Really think everything enhances the fluid. Almost difficult to quite grasp what’s going on , but that’s what makes this so interesting.
Beautiful flow phenomenon. I thought the camera work and editing was really good.
Your song choice is perfect for the fluid phenomenon occurring in the video. It creates this memorizing feel.
This video is really well done. I like how you showed us different colors of fluid as well as different angles. Great work!
Beautiful video, nice selection on the music and flow is very interesting as well.
This came out very beautifully! Great work! I loved the ending!
Awesome swirls. I love how fluids have vorticity and you captured it well. The music works. I also enjoy the different camera angles and colors. Nice job.
Great music addition. The video quality is very nice too. The flow is fantastic, great visuals and asthetics. Great video, nothing I would change.
Really amazing video. I loved the tight focus and the colors of the die and the flume piece. The vorticity in the die was really cool, and I think the music matches the flow really well
The flow is mesmerizing to watch and the music is a wonderful addition. Well done.
Great job capturing the vortex shredding in this flow. The music goes very well with the speed at which the fluids are traveling.
Great job of capturing and editing this phenomena to turn it into a more artistic piece!
I love the concept and the execution. Nice artistic intent and wonderful camera work.
The videos you make are serene. I like the angle you set up here, it looks like a landscape.
Very well done. It is great that you can so clearly see the fluid curling over on itself.
The music goes really well with the fluid flow and then contrast between the blue dye and the white background is really cool. If you were to run this again I would try and remove all of the particles that are in the water so that you keep the background as white as possible.
I really like the aesthetic that you were able to achieve with this video. I would recommend shortening it though. The first minute of it seems pretty drawn out in my opinion. All in all, great post!
Really beautiful video. THe music goes along well with the flow. The flow is clearly visible and resolved.
Great editing. This video is mesmerizing.
It looks like the mountains! This is such a neat thing to see… I feel like I understand how clouds interact with the mountains a lot more… It could be so cool if there was a way to make opaque white “cloud” dye… not sure if you could, but it’s so neat!
