Jason Weingart found a perfect balance of science and art in his image “Evolution of a Tornado”. The stages of development for a catastrophic phenomena like a tornado can be clearly seen, and the post processing done to capture the movement of the tornado as it fully developed over the field is beautiful. The change in light as the tornado develops shows how ominous and powerful tornadoes can be, and can change how you perceive the constant field.

Second Prize – This photo shows a phenomenon of tornados that is rarely ever seen, even rarer is the multiple of them. I like the symmetry and how is shows really large scale flow resulting in patterns.

This is an incredible time-lapse way to visualize the motion of a tornado! I love the lighting with the blue sky above to the left and the underlying yellow glow that gets grayed out as the tornado develops.
Third Prize! This is a really cool photo. I love watching storms, and while I still kind of hope I’ll never see a tornado this close, I’m glad to know that as a silver lining it would look cool.
