This is a video created by The Slow Mo Guys in 2015 to demonstrate what a fire tornado looks like, in slow motion. Fire tornadoes appear similar to regular tornadoes but are formed from hot dry air rising up rapidly. “Chimneys” are created from the hot air ascending and hot embers are sucked in which then create the fire tornado. I think it would be an incredible, and terrifying, sight to witness a fire tornado in real life. It appears as a combination of two natural disasters but is actually quite beautiful and fascinating. I am a big fan of the Slow Mo Guys and I really enjoy this video in particular. Its interesting to witness flames in slow motion alone but to see flames manipulated in a way such as this is even better.

First Place – I love how this shows fluid mechanics that isn’t typically shown everyday. Watching fire take place as a fluid is really mesmerizing.

2nd place. I really like the slow-motion close up on the flames because it shows the random yet smooth flow of the vortex.

Third place. This image is really interesting. I love the use of the simple box fans to make a fire tornado.

2nd place. The slow motion really brought the beauty of the flaming vortices to the forefront. The set up for that experiment must have been fun to do!
