When watching this beautiful display of art, it is easily over looked that this technique uses a background in fluid dynamics. The artist, Roman De Giuli, uses Rayleigh-Taylor insatiability and a flow release medium to create his vibrant short film “Magic Fluids” and many others of its kind. The film is created by layering paints of different densities on top of each other. This technique is called the “Accidental Painting Technique” where over time the denser paints will be covered by the less dense paints. Roman De Giuli uses compositions of fluids, powders, and colors are applied to a variety of mediums including large paper canvases and petri dishes. I highly recommend taking a moment to watch the actual short film because the stills do not to the video justice.

This is my third choice for the Best of Web. The colors and patterns that were used are very interesting and chaotic but in a good way. Kind of looks like something that you would find in space.
This is my number two choice. I love the colors and how each individual color has a its own section before transitioning to another. This is a really cool image!
1st place vote: The video was incredibly mesmerizing to watch. The different amounts of flow the artist can create with paint is amazing. The color schemes that was created enhanced an already visually pleasing piece of art. The fluid mechanics can easily be identified throughout the video. I also enjoyed how the flow matched the beats of the music. Overall, this is a wonderful piece of art and I recommend others to watch the video if they haven’t already!

This is my first place choice for the best of web submissions. The effect that the artist is able to achieve is absolutely otherworldly. What really drew me into this work in particular is how immersive it is. From the images alone it is nearly impossible to deduce what is happening. It was only until I was able to find an outside perspective of the artist conducting the experiment that I was able to grasp what was happening and “believe” the videos. Incredibly beautiful.
This is my number one choice! I think the images are so fascinating, and the colors are absolutely gorgeous. I hope I will be able to capture something like this when I have more experience!
