Pictured here is the Porsche 919 Hybrid undergoing wind tunnel testing. The Porsche 919 Hybrid is one of Porsche’s GT endurance racing vehicles. The 919 Hybrid utilizes a two liter V4 engine which is half the capacity of most of its competitors. GT racing is a very quantifiable method of showcasing superior engineering, the measurement being whether or not a car finishes and then in wins and losses. In GT racing teams take every advantage they can get to allow the car to complete the lap as fast as possible, with one of these advantages being drag from the body of the car. As you can see in this photo the 919 is undergoing multiple face drag analysis, where the engineers analyze the drag at the leading edge, along the sides, and the air intake. Another point that this picture illustrates is the analysis of air flowing through the air flow channels which create additional downward pressure on the front wing of the car which allows it to corner faster and give the front wheels more traction.
