I rented a Schlieren apparatus from Dr. Herzberg to capture the flow of heat coming off the wick of a lit candle. I used a headlamp with blue tape over the top of the lens to diffuse the light reflected from the mirror slightly. With the highest quality camera I had, I unfortunately could not avoid graininess in the image, but I know this could be fixed with a camera with a larger focal length.

I love the color of the background with the effect
I normally see a brown looking filter for this effect, instead of the blue filter you applied and I thought that was an interesting unique take.
This image is awesome, I cant imagine how difficult the setup must have been. The blue light with the orange flame makes for a very aesthetic color combo, and it really accentuates the flow of the hot air above the candle. Great framing and editing as well!
I really like that you used blue tape to give the light a blue tint. I feel the added color makes the image way more interesting. It shows the physics but it is also very beautiful.
The whole scene of this image is really nice, I like that we can see some of the wax of the candle and that it looks really warm compared to the blue mirror.
I like the little bit of flame in the Schlieren part, as it shows this is one image and not a blue image transplanted into a dark image. I think this a good ratio of flame to flow. The blue light is a very good color choice, contrasting to the dark background and orange flame.
I love the composition of the image, it looks like a small campfire lit at night with a large blue moon in the background. The difference in size is really dramatic and beautiful.
I really like the blue light contrasting the dark smoke coming from the candle. It has a cool mystical affect.
