Taken in Northern Colorado Springs, facing northwest.

The photo shows a layer of nimbostratus clouds smearing virga in the foreground, with stratocumulus clouds illuminated by the setting sun. Above both of these layers, an ominous altostratus layer is ribbed with mamma.

The corresponding Skew-T plot shows an atmosphere that is unstable up to about 5000ft above ground. Above that level, the atmosphere appears to be largely stable.

    Hey there Rachel!
I love this image! I appreciate the elements within the image to provide perspective on how big this cloud formation really was. The yellows and blues bouncing off of each other really make the image pop! You can really feel the texture of the clouds in the selected image.

I really like the way there is some darkness in the top of the frame, it makes the image very dynamic and the clouds in the bottom of the frame really stand out

I really like the ambiance of this photo. I thought leaving the foreground in all black shadows was a good editing move because it provided perspective for this image. This cloud photo had a great depth to it which was appealing to the eye.

The lighting in this image is gorgeous. I like the way it shifts from being bright at the bottom of the image to dark at the top of it, the contrast is stellar.

I love how you have the bright patch of sky between the darkness of both the clouds at the top of the image and the mountains at the bottom!

I love the drama in this image. The contrast between the mountains and the bright sky just above them is exemplary. I think the dark mountains at the bottom balance the image really well and draw your attention to the interesting clouds in the middle. This is a beautiful image.
