This project was inspired by one of my favorite CFD images, which compared a cow and a Jeep’s aerodynamics and concluded that the cow is more aerodynamic.
A 2-D silhouette of a cow was extruded in SolidWorks to create an even cross-section across the flow tank. Rheoscopic fluid (created by separation of shaving cream particles in water) was cycled through the tank, flowing around the cow, and allowing us to visualize the stagnation points and vortices generated.
This project served as an early foray into shooting and editing video, as my background is almost entirely in photography. This video was taken on a Canon Rebel t7i in manual video mode, 30fps – 1/60s per frame, f/7.1, and ISO 800. Filmed on September 24, 2024.
