This German photographer uses a high-speed camera and a macro lens to capture liquid droplets hitting water. He uses a technique were he releases two droplets in succession. With it timed correctly, he is able to get shapes similar to a mushroom or disk. The distance the droplet is released determines the shape that is formed. He uses a flash to freeze motion rather than a shutter speed.

Second Place. I think that the use of precisely timed water droplets in this piece is awe striking. While the timing of the water droplets is impressive the piece is ultimately limited by the use of color which could be more vibrant.
