2007 Gallery - Team Project 1
For most of the semester, students were put in mixed teams of graduate and undergraduate, photography and engineering. The teams were given access to a range of flow visualization equipment and experiments, and were also encouraged to create their own apparatus. Students worked both as artist plus assistants, and in fully collaborative arrangements, although each student was responsible for creative control of one image.
Group Alpha: Gordon Browning, Tracy Eliasson, Travis Gaskill, Trisha Harrison, Owen Hnath. These experiments were performed using shallow pools of liquid on top of a horizontal sheet of plexiglas, diffusely lit and heated from below.

Group Delta: Phil Bollam, Justin Cohee, Erik Hansen, Barry Whittaker, Ray (Hsin Jui) Wu. These experiments were performed in a Hele-Shaw flow cell, a narrow space between horizontal plexiglas sheets, viewed from above. The Saffman-Taylor fingering instability results when a less viscous fluid is injected into a more viscous fluid in the cell.

Group Gamma: Amanda Barnes, Sean Hulings, Mu Hong Lin, Vanessa Ready, Brian Roche. A lump of dry ice was placed in a tank of water. The cold rising bubbles of carbon dioxide contain water vapor fog. The bubbles were photographed with a variety of lighting conditions.
